

and you'll really never have to look at the desktop. If I wasn't going that route, I'd probably just go a 4gig Pi 4, and just do a full desktop Debian install on it, set Kodi to start on boot in case it reboots. I've used Nvidia Shield's for about 5-6yrs and love them.


I've never used OpenElec (honestly, I thought it went EOL a couple years ago). The scans are way faster than Plex as well, in my experience. really nothing to set up on the server side that you probably weren't going to use already. I've always liked the simplicity of Kodi. In addition to preferring it's interface over Plex, Emby, etc. In essence, yes, on a RPi you would install LibreELEC or OpenELEC, plug the HDMI into the TV then an ethernet cable to your network then configure Kodi to access the shares on your server.
